Top Tips for Planning a Baby's First Birthday Party
Your baby’s first birthday is a huge milestone—for both of you! You’ve made it through the first year of sleepless nights, teething, and countless cuddles, and now it’s time to celebrate. Whether you're planning a small get-together or something a little more special, we’ve put together our top tips to help you create a magical (and stress-free) first birthday party.
1. Keep It Short and Sweet
Babies can tire quickly, especially when there's a crowd. Aim for a party that lasts 1.5 to 2 hours, ideally around your baby’s nap schedule. A late morning or early afternoon slot usually works well and helps avoid overtired meltdowns.
2. Choose a Simple, Sweet Theme
You don’t need to go over the top. A soft, baby-friendly theme like “One-derland,” “Twinkle Twinkle,” or “Teddy Bear Picnic” can help guide your decorations, cake, and tableware.

Hosting at home or in your garden makes everything easier—especially when it comes to nappy changes, feeding, or nap-time emergencies. If you prefer not to host at home, look for a small hall or baby-friendly venue with space for little ones to crawl and explore safely.
4. Baby-Friendly Food (And a Smash Cake!)
Keep food simple and age-appropriate. Finger foods like soft fruit, mini sandwiches, and baby puffs are ideal for little ones. For the adults, think platters or grazing boards that don’t require lots of prep and are easy to transport.

Opt for eco-friendly or disposable tableware to make tidying up a breeze. Lay a picnic blanket or mat under the highchair if you're doing a smash cake—you’ll thank yourself later!
